The live album I recorded and mixed for psychedelic improvisors, The Engine Room, is released today (well the first part of it anyway!) – listen and download from the band’s Bandcamp page.

The performance took place at Culture Palace in Enfield, a busy community arts venue located in a bookshop in the centre of town. I opted for a fairly minimal approach to the recording but also wanted to capture plenty of atmosphere – much of which came from a cheap dynamic mic placed fairly high up behind the band and pointing towards the audience – this was one of those “Well I have one more channel left, may as well” kind of things but ended up sounding amazing.

I might do another post going into geeky details on mic placement and exactly how I approached the mix at a later date. For now I urge you to support the band and buy the album from The Engine Room’s Bandcamp.
